Indications / Uses

Benadryl Syrup 120mL is used for symptomatic relief of allergic conditions including hay fever, urticaria, and other skin reactions. It also helps manage cough and cold symptoms and provides temporary relief from occasional sleeplessness. Additionally, it is used for motion sickness prevention and treatment of Parkinsonian symptoms.

Formulation / Ingredients Benadryl Syrup 120mL contains: Diphenhydramine Hydrochloride 12.5mg per 5mL + alcohol (0.6% v/v) + sucrose + flavoring agents.

Side Effects

Benadryl Syrup 120mL common side effects include: drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, nausea, and coordination difficulties. Discontinue use if severe effects like breathing difficulties or rapid heartbeat occur.

Directions and Dosage

  • Adults and adolescents (12+ years): 20mL (50mg) every 4-6 hours. Maximum: 300mg in 24 hours.
  • Children 6–12 years: 10mL (25mg) every 4-6 hours. Maximum: 150mg in 24 hours.
  • Children 1–6 years: 5mL (12.5mg) every 4-6 hours. Maximum: 75mg in 24 hours.

Not recommended for infants below 1 year. Maximum treatment duration: 7 days unless directed otherwise. Use weight-based dosing where possible (1.25mg/kg per dose).

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to antihistamines, neonates, breastfeeding mothers, and acute asthma attacks. Avoid with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) and in narrow-angle glaucoma.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation

Not recommended during pregnancy due to potential risks. Excreted in breast milk—avoid use while nursing due to infant sedation risk.

Special Precautions

  • Avoid alcohol and CNS depressants due to additive sedation
  • Use caution in asthma, hyperthyroidism, or prostate enlargement
  • Not recommended for prolonged use without assessment

Is it safe to take it with other medications?

May interact with sedatives, antidepressants, or anticholinergics causing increased drowsiness. Avoid with MAOIs due to risk of hypertensive crisis.

How should I store it?

Store below 30°C in original container. Keep tightly closed and protect from light. Discard if solution discolors.
