LOMOTIL Loperamide 2mg is used for the symptomatic relief of acute diarrhea and the management of chronic diarrhea associated with inflammatory bowel disease. It is also indicated for reducing the volume of discharge in patients with ileostomies. This medication works by slowing down intestinal movement, allowing for more water absorption and firmer stools.

Side Effects
LOMOTIL Loperamide 2mg common side effects include: constipation, dizziness, nausea, and abdominal cramping. Some individuals may also experience fatigue, dry mouth, or skin rashes. In rare cases, severe bloating or paralytic ileus may occur.
Directions and Dosage
- Adults (18+ years): Initially 2 tablets, followed by 1 tablet after each loose stool. Do not exceed 8 tablets in 24 hours.
- Adolescents (12–17 years): Initially 1 tablet, followed by 1 tablet after each loose stool. Do not exceed 6 tablets in 24 hours.
- Kids 9–12 years: 1 tablet 3 times daily. Do not exceed 3 tablets in 24 hours.
- Kids 6–8 years: 1 tablet 2 times daily. Do not exceed 2 tablets in 24 hours.
Not recommended for children under 6 years of age. Maximum treatment duration: 2 days for acute diarrhea. Discontinue use if no improvement is observed after 48 hours.
Contraindications
Avoid use in cases of acute dysentery characterized by blood in stools and high fever. Not suitable for patients with acute ulcerative colitis, bacterial enterocolitis, or pseudomembranous colitis associated with broad-spectrum antibiotics. Must be avoided when inhibition of peristalsis is required.
Special Precautions
- Monitor hydration status closely as fluid and electrolyte depletion can occur during diarrhea.
- Exercise caution if liver dysfunction is present as it may lead to relative overdose.
- Discontinue immediately if constipation, abdominal distension, or ileus develops.
Is it safe to take it with other medications?
Interactions may occur with drugs that slow intestinal motility or medications containing P-glycoprotein inhibitors like quinidine or ritonavir. Combining these may increase plasma levels of the active ingredient.
How should I store it?
Store in a cool, dry place at temperatures not exceeding 30°C. Protect the medicine from direct sunlight and keep out of reach of children.
